ROLL COATING – APPLIED MATTRESS ADHESIVES
Worthen Industries have developed a line of waterborne adhesives for roll coat applications. We are familiar with the changing demands that the industry faces. The challenges may come from consumer demands or from government regulations. We are constantly looking at ways to assist our customers to address these issues.
Our adhesives are developed to bond typical polyurethane foams used in mattress constructions including viscoelastic. Many constructions are made with polyester fiber and non-woven fabrics including mattresses with pocketed coils and pillow toppers. We maintain contact with foam manufacturers to keep abreast of any new developments.
Worthen have a well-equipped laboratory that can make the best recommendation based upon the mattress construction in question. We will recommend application amounts and work with the customer in their plant to assure optimal performance.

Worthen Industries developed the SprayClean® line of waterborne adhesives to address overspray and fogging. The commonly used High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray guns always produce some particulate matter that will form an airborne fog. The particles may present a health hazard to employees, but at the very least, will be an annoyance. The particles will deposit on equipment and may cause long term damage.
Worthen Industries’ SprayClean® waterborne adhesives are applied using specially designed spray guns. We have developed one part and two-part spray guns. Using SprayClean® means the adhesive goes where you want it to go and does not float around your production area causing a mess.
Worthen Industries has a laboratory that is fully equipped to make the best recommendation for the customer’s application. We will assist in the installation of delivery systems and make sure that the spray operators are trained.

HOT MELT ADHESIVES – HAND & AUTO SPRAY APPLICATIONS
Worthen Industries' hot melt adhesives are custom formulations to address the needs of the furniture industry. Hot melt adhesives (HMAs) have the advantage of being 100% solids; there is no water or solvent to dry.
We have developed long open time HMAs that give foam fabricators time to assemble their constructions. The products are designed for both hand held and automatic spray applications. Worthen Industries work closely with manufacturers of both types of equipment. The hand spray equipment is portable, and the hoses are flexible to enable assembly of different shape and sized parts. The automatic spray lines are actuated with a photo sensor that dispenses the HMA to the areas required, auto-spray equipment is particularly good for flat pieces that can be fed on a conveyor. The photo sensor and auto-spray combination eliminate possible over application of the adhesive by plant personnel. Also, hot melt automatic spray bridge conveying systems dramatically increase production output of fabricated foam parts versus hand spray application of hot melt.
Worthen have formulated products that bond to a variety of polyurethane foams, non-woven fabrics and polyester fiber that are used as cushion fillers. Worthen's laboratory can make recommendations for adhesive and application amounts and can coordinate with equipment manufacturers to help customers scale up.
GEL PRODUCTS – INFUSIBLE AND POURABLE
Worthen Industries works with foam manufacturers and converters to develop products that are commonly referred to as gel.
Worthen Industries can formulate and produce gel beads that are infused into polyurethane foam during the foaming process. The gel beads may offer an aesthetic look or provide potential benefits such as cooling effect.
We also formulate gels that may be extruded by the foam converter onto foam cushions or mattresses that provide added support and a cooling effect. Worthen Industries has the capability to make various colors of extrudable gel and will formulate to meet the customer’s needs for firmness and heat resistance.

MOISTURE CURE ADHESIVES – 100% SOLIDS NO VOLATILES
Worthen Industries has 100% solids moisture cure technology. It has been used to develop a fast curing adhesive designed specifically for seaming foam slabs (buns) on looper slitters used at polyurethane foam pouring plants. The adhesive performs well on all types of polyurethane foam, including soft foams used in the manufacture of diapers. The resulting seam is unnoticeable and has high heat resistance.
The technology may also be used to assemble foam to scouring pads for scrub sponges and may also be used for foam to foam laminations such as mattress assembly.
Worthen Industries moisture cure adhesives produce bonds with excellent water and heat resistance.
SPECIALTY THERMOPLASTIC FILM ADHESIVES
Worthen Industries have developed thermoplastic films that provide a novel way to assemble polyurethane foam mattresses. Because the film is heat activated it may be used to cover and bond to a piece of foam and then may be reactivated to bond another piece to it. The resulting bond is strong and flexible and has the added advantage of no residual moisture. Thermoplastic film has and will give better bonds compared to hot melt adhesives (HMA). Worthen Industries produce film in a variety of widths and thicknesses.
