Worthen’s sustainability strategy is built upon the strong foundation of our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to which all five of our U.S. manufacturing facilities are certified.  Our Nashua North plant has been a bluesign® System Partner since 2018.  Bluesign® is a comprehensive European-based sustainable production standard for textile and allied industries.  We use the latest production technologies and continually look for opportunities to maximize output, minimize waste, and thereby work towards our sustainability goals.

Our R&D teams are focused on “green chemistry” and a major consideration in product development is evaluating more sustainable raw materials including those that are biobased, low to no VOC content, recycled content containing, recyclable, or help facilitate the recyclability of our customers’ end products.  Worthen offers a number of products that are certified to standards such as bluesign® and Oeko-tex®.  Our business units are always eager to work with customers to develop solutions that help them achieve their sustainability goals.

Our quality policy is to satisfy the needs and expectations of our customers. This is accomplished through understanding customer requirements, providing consistent quality products that meet or exceed all performance requirements while promoting full employee involvement and empowerment. Worthen, as part of our commitment to our customers, shall establish and maintain an ISO 14001 compliant Quality Management System, as well as always seeking ways to improve our services, products and the value of those products and services to our customers.

It is also our policy to promote and maintain environmentally responsible practices and safe work practices for the benefit of our customers, consumers, employees and the communities in which we operate.  Please follow the links below to view these policies, as well as our recent VEEP acceptance for our Richmond, VA facility.

Responsible Manufacturing Policy - 2020

Virginia Environmental Excellence Program

Worthen Industries supports the drive to a clean energy economy.  As a member of Ceres’ Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP) Network, New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility and Clean Energy New Hampshire, Worthen advocates for policies that support clean energy.

Worthen continually looks for opportunities to increase the energy efficiency our operations and our use of renewable energy sources.  We have rooftop solar arrays on two of our facilities, including a 1 MW array on one of our plants in New Hampshire; implement energy efficiency measures at all plants including LED lights, variable frequency drives on equipment motors, and modular chillers; and consider energy efficiency when evaluating all new equipment purchases.

We maintain a highly qualified professional staff in the areas of quality systems management, ISO standards, EHS auditing, environmental management, worker health and safety, and chemical regulatory requirements.  We also employ specialty consultants in employee wellness, and call on external experts on energy conservation, environmental compliance, and worker health and safety as needed.
